Getting Started in Steal a Car
Buy, park, steal, defend, and rebirth—your first session done right.
Steal a Car is a Roblox simulation/tycoon by Turbo Heist where eight players share a server, buy cars off a live conveyor, park them for passive cash, then raid each other’s bases. This getting-started guide walks you from first spawn to a competent first rebirth without wasting early income on Commons you will delete anyway.
Released 29 May 2025 as free-to-play, the game rewards aggression tempered with lock discipline. If you leave a Mythical unlocked while you AFK on the belt, someone will take it. Learn the loop once, then deepen with How to Steal, How to Defend, and How to Rebirth.
What you will do in the first 30 minutes
- Claim a base and finish tutorial prompts.
- Buy the best car you can afford from the conveyor (skip pure Commons if a Rare is up).
- Park it on a garage pad and confirm cash is ticking.
- Lock your base before you wander.
- Scout one unlocked neighbor; steal only if the rarity is worth the slap risk.
- Return, park, re-lock, and repeat until rebirth requirements appear.
Full control tables live on the Players Hub. On PC, expect WASD move, E interact/buy/sell, G teleport to base, R rebirth menu, click to attack/slap, Space to jump.
Step 1 — Understand the conveyor
Cars spawn and roll down a central belt/portal line. Each has a rarity and a price. Rarity ladder used across this wiki:
Common → Rare → Epic → Legendary → Mythical/Mythic → Divine → Secret
Higher rarity usually means higher park income. Prices climb fast; your starter cash will not buy endgame pads. That is intentional—stealing exists so you can leapfrog the belt.
Buy rules for beginners
- First car: anything Rare or better; Common only if nothing else is affordable
- Second and third: fill slots with Epic+ when possible
- Never empty your entire wallet on a flashy car if it blocks a near-term rebirth—skim How to Rebirth early so you know the cash wall
Check the Tier List Hub whenever you hesitate on a purchase.
Step 2 — Park for passive income
Cars only print money when seated on your garage pads. Carry or drive the purchase onto an empty slot until the game registers ownership. Watch the income tooltip; if it reads zero, the car is not docked correctly.
Slot tips
- Fill empty pads quickly so you are not tempted to overpay later under panic
- Overwrite Commons as soon as better rarities arrive
- Remember paint multipliers later (pink ~6x, yellow ~8.5x)—do not paint Commons
Step 3 — Lock before you explore
The Lock Base control is your best friend. While locked, other players cannot waltz in and yoink pads. Locks expire; rebirths often improve lock duration or related tools. Habit to build now: lock → leave → return → lock.
If you forget, read How to Defend after your first loss—it will sting less the second time.
Step 4 — Your first steal
Stealing is the heart of Steal a Car:
- Find a base whose lock timer is down or about to drop.
- Enter, target the highest rarity pad you can reach (see tier list).
- Hold the interact prompt to take the car.
- Sprint home along the shortest path; use teleport to base if the car is already secured and the shortcut is available.
- Dock, then lock immediately.
Expect owners to slap you. Click/tap attack to knock them back; your goal is not a fair duel—it is exiting with the car. Deep tactics, baiting, and escape routes are in How to Steal.
Do not steal Commons across the map. Do steal Epics and above even if it means waiting thirty seconds for a lock to expire.
Step 5 — Collect cash and upgrade
Passive income piles up while cars sit. Collect from your base economy UI as needed to fund the next belt purchase. Some players use auto-collect scripts (see Scripts Hub); beginners should learn the manual collect so you notice when income stalls because someone stole your best car.
Step 6 — Plan the first rebirth
Rebirth resets a chunk of progress in exchange for permanent multipliers, shop gear, and often extra slots or lock bonuses. Requirements usually mix a cash threshold with specific cars owned. Before you press the button:
- Read How to Rebirth end to end
- Consider parking spare required cars on an alt account so the wipe does not erase every asset
- Buy essential post-rebirth gear (slap upgrades, movement coils) before vanity
Rebirth is how Steal a Car stays interesting after the first Legendary. Skipping it keeps you soft forever.
Step 7 — Optional boosts
- Codes — Redeem free gifts when live; October 2026 currently has none—still learn the flow on the Codes Hub.
- Paint — Spend Robux only on high-rarity earners.
- Scripts — Ban risk; alts only.
- Friends — Duo defense in an 8-player server is oppressive in a good way.
Common beginner mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| AFK unlocked with good cars | Lock on a timer; defend guide |
| Buying every Common | Follow tier list buy priority |
| Chasing every steal | Only contest Epic+ early |
| Rebirthing broke with empty slots | Bank cash + keep a refill plan |
| Ignoring slap gear | Unlock shop items after rebirth |
| Fighting in the open after a steal | Path home, dock, lock |
Session checklist (print mentally)
- Base claimed, tutorial done
- At least one Rare/Epic parked and ticking
- Lock cooldown understood
- One successful steal of Epic or better
- Know where Codes / Rebirth / Shop buttons are
- Bookmarked Guides Hub for the next problem
